Dr. Frances Jurnak, PhD uses computer modeling and cellular biology to investigate a molecule that is highly expressed in tumors that do not have enough oxygen, called carbonic anhydrase IX. This molecule is present in many large breast tumors and appears to impart resistance to various therapies including radiation therapy. Dr Jurnak is also investigating with collaborators new drugs to block the activity of this molecule.
